For the third time since 2021, Penn State Football is in search of a new defensive coordinator. The Nittany Lions will need to replace DC and linebackers coach Tom Allen, who departed after one season to take the defensive coordinator position at Clemson.
This marks the fourth defensive coordinator for Penn State in recent years, with all three of Allen’s predecessors moving on to roles in the ACC.
As Penn State evaluates its options, Happy Valley Insider has identified several potential candidates for the position:
1. Joe Rossi– Known for leading a consistently strong defense at Minnesota.
2. Jesse Minter– Has elevated Michigan’s defense to elite status in recent seasons.
3. Tony Gibson– A defensive mastermind at NC State with experience in multiple schemes.
4. Jim Leonhard– Former Wisconsin defensive coordinator with an impressive track record.
5. Glenn Schumann– A rising star as Georgia’s co-defensive coordinator.
6. Chris Partridge– Former Ole Miss defensive coordinator with a reputation for player development.
These candidates offer a mix of experience and innovation, making them strong contenders to help Penn State maintain its defensive prowess.
