Tennessee Volunteers tight end Charlie Browder has entered the transfer portal, with On3’s Pete Nakos being the first to report the news.
Browder began his career at UCF in 2021, the year after current Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel left for Knoxville. However, it was assistant coach Alex Golesh who played a key role in recruiting Browder to UCF. Browder later transferred from Orlando to Tennessee in 2022.
After graduating from Christ School in North Carolina, Browder was ranked as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021 by the On3 Industry Ranking. He was ranked 61st among tight ends and 1,121st overall in that recruiting class.
While in high school, Browder helped lead his team to a NCISAA Division II state crown in 2020 and earned second team all-state honors at tight end. He was a three-sport athlete. Since getting to college, Browder has seen relatively limited playing time. In 11 career games, he has made two receptions for 10 yards. Both of those came against UConn in 2023. On top of that, he has four total tackles from time that he’s spent on special teams.
The Tennessee Volunteers had a strong 2024 season, finishing with a 10-3 record, which included a 10-2 regular season and a spot in the College Football Playoff. Despite believing they had a solid case to host a first-round game, the Volunteers were instead placed on the road against the Ohio State Buckeyes, a game they ultimately lost.
Tennessee is currently ranked 51st in the On3 2025 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. This class includes 11 players who have entered the transfer portal to leave Tennessee, excluding Browder. However, the Volunteers have also gained a commitment from offensive lineman Wendell Moe, who is transferring to the team.
