Georgia’s offense for 2025 is shaping up, but Trevor Etienne won’t be a part of it. After transferring in to UGA from Florida this time last year and spending a single season in Athens, the junior running back announced on social media he’s off to the NFL.
Etienne was Georgia’s top option in the backfield when he was healthy. He finished first on the team in yards per game averaging 60.90 as he totaled 609 yards on 122 carries. He also scored a team-high nine rushing touchdowns despite missing a large portion of the month of November including three entire games due to injury.
The Jennings, La. native was named to the All-SEC Third Team by the league’s 16 head coaches.
Etienne was particularly impressive in each of Georgia’s two games against Texas. He had three touchdowns and 110 total yards on 22 touches in the first matchup with the Longhorns before going for a pair of scores including the game-winner on a season-high 94 yards rushing (adding 28 yards receiving as well) in the SEC Championship Game rematch.
“We think he’s a special back that gives us a chance to hit a home run any time he touches the ball,” Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said about Etienne and the luxury it is to call an offense that includes him. “None the more evident than that game, Texas, run a simple zone play, the frontside defensive end kind of stuck his head in the wrong gap, and he bounced it outside. It was an explosive play. It kind of got that drive going. It got the offense ignited. You know, you wish he was would have been healthy all year. He’s kind of been in and out early in the year, and then the four or five weeks that he was out. That hurts you a little bit, but that’s football.”
Before joining Georgia, Etienne spent two seasons at Florida, where he consistently ranked as the team’s second-leading rusher, surpassing 700 yards in each season despite splitting carries. In 2023, he had a standout performance in an upset win over Tennessee, rushing for 172 yards on 23 attempts, including a 62-yard run and a touchdown. That season, he also recorded a three-touchdown game against LSU, finishing with 925 total yards (753 rushing, 172 receiving) and nine touchdowns.
Etienne joins a group of NFL-bound Georgia Bulldogs, including standout players like wide receiver Dominic Lovett, tight end Ben Yurosek, and offensive linemen Tate Ratledge, Jared Wilson, Dylan Fairchild, and Xavier Truss.
On the defensive side, Georgia is set to lose linemen Nazir Stackhouse, Warren Brinson, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, and Mykel Williams, as well as linebackers Jalon Walker, Chaz Chambliss, and Smael Mondon. Several defensive backs are also expected to declare for the draft, further highlighting the team’s significant turnover heading into 2025.
