9Shane Beamer, South Carolina’s football coach, acknowledges the unique dynamic of coaching at a university that honors women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley with a statue for her three NCAA titles in the past decade. As a California judge considers a revised House v. NCAA settlement introducing revenue sharing for student-athletes, this shift will bring financial implications to the balance of influence on the Gamecocks’ campus.
The final revenue-sharing figures for South Carolina will be determined by the administration, including new athletic director Jeremiah Donati. Per the proposed House v. NCAA settlement, Power Four football programs are expected to receive about 75% of roughly $20.5 million, while women’s basketball is set to receive 5%, equating to less than $500,000 annually from that initial amount.
Dawn Staley is a true team player, wholeheartedly supporting our football program while I back her basketball efforts. We collaborate closely, and that won’t change. She recognizes the significant revenue football generates, not just at South Carolina but across the board. At the same time, she’s fiercely competitive and driven to win championships.
Despite the notable financial gap, Shane Beamer believes that however South Carolina divides its revenue-sharing funds among sports, it will ultimately benefit the entire Gamecocks athletic department.
Shane Beamer noted that while he hasn’t had specific talks with Dawn Staley about revenue sharing, they share the same view: they want all South Carolina sports to thrive, from women’s and men’s basketball to baseball, women’s golf, and beyond. Success across all programs is the ultimate goal.
