Penn State appears to be in search of a new defensive coordinator for the 2025 season.
On Monday, multiple reports indicated that Tom Allen, who joined the Nittany Lions after his tenure as Indiana’s head coach, will be departing to assume the same role at Clemson. Allen’s stint at Penn State lasted just one season. This marks the third time in four years that head coach James Franklin will need to hire a new defensive coordinator, following Manny Diaz’s two-year tenure before he became Duke’s head coach last year.
In his lone season at Penn State, Allen led a defense that ranked among the nation’s elite. The unit finished sixth in opponent points allowed per game (16.5), fifth in opponent yards allowed per game (294.7), and fifth in opponent red zone scoring percentage (70.5).
