The Ohio State Buckeyes immediately had a fresh start after winning the National Championship.
Players had to make judgments on the transfer portal and the NFL very rapidly, so there was no time for celebration. However, Ohio State has been facing uncertainty regarding the coordinators’ fate.
Ohio State will have to find a replacement for Jim Knowles, who is leaving for Penn State to call the defense there. Soon, Ohio State will hire a replacement and focus on building on its 2024 success.
Joel Klatt, a college football commentator for Fox, believes the Buckeyes will be a dominant team in 2025.
“The national champs will look a lot different next year, there is no doubt,” Klatt said recently. “But they’re still going to be an elite team, and they’ve still got two players specifically that I think could be the two best players on each side of the ball in the sport. [It is] hard to take a huge step back when you’ve got the best player in the sport on each side of the ball.”
Indeed, in 2025, Ohio State will have two of its top players back on each side of the football field. As a rookie, Jeremiah Smith was Ohio State’s main offensive threat, and he should cause even more havoc the following season. In 2024, Smith recorded 1,313 receiving yards. Caleb Downs will rejoin Ohio State’s defense as the nation’s top defensive player in the backfield.
OSU needs to find a method to defeat the Wolverines in 2025 after the Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the fourth consecutive year in 2024. Ohio State was still able to accomplish its major objective this past season despite the College Football Playoffs’ increased format. The Buckeyes were not the only ones who experienced that.
The Buckeyes are in a terrific position to reload and be very good again, but there will be many changes for Ohio State in 2025 after losing a lot from a veteran-led squad.
