During the previous matchup between Notre Dame and Ohio State, Lou Holtz found himself in the spotlight following his remarks about Ryan Day and the reaction that followed. Now, as the two teams prepare to meet in the national championship on Monday, the iconic Fighting Irish coach has delivered another pointed remark.
Lou Holtz quipped that a Notre Dame loss in the College Football Playoff national championship would be “to preserve Ryan Day’s job.” He also revealed that, despite not initially planning to attend the game in person, he has since changed his mind.
Holtz was addressing a clip from The Pat McAfee Show discussing whether he would attend the matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. According to his latest update, he now plans to be there.
“If Notre Dame doesn’t win, it’s because we want to preserve Ryan Day’s job,” Holtz wrote on X. “I was originally going to be at the game in spirit, but now I’ll be dragging my body along as well.”
