South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley and her non-profit organization, INNERSOLE, recently made a significant impact in Greenville, South Carolina. Partnering with Absolute Total Care, they donated over 100 pairs of new sneakers to children, including those participating in the West Greenville Community Center’s after-school program.
INNERSOLE, co-founded by Staley, aims to provide new sneakers to homeless and underprivileged children, fostering a sense of self-esteem and belonging.
Reflecting on her own childhood, Staley emphasized the transformative power of a new pair of sneakers, stating that it can be a game-changer for a child’s confidence and outlook.
Over the past decade, INNERSOLE has donated more than 30,000 pairs of sneakers to children in need.
This recent event in Greenville is part of their ongoing commitment to uplifting communities and providing essential resources to young people.
Although Coach Staley was unable to attend the event due to her coaching commitments, the initiative was successfully executed with the help of dedicated volunteers and partners. Children at the West Greenville Community Center expressed joy and excitement upon receiving their new sneakers, with one recipient, Zyhiry Davis, sharing, “I was happy because I never had these shoes before.”
Katrina Wofford, Director of the West Greenville Community Center, highlighted the positive impact of such events, noting that they offer encouragement and positivity to children facing various challenges. The collaboration between INNERSOLE and Absolute Total Care also included the distribution of school supplies, further supporting the educational needs of the community’s youth.
Through initiatives like these, Dawn Staley and INNERSOLE continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of children, reinforcing the importance of community support and the profound effect of seemingly simple gestures.
