In just one year, Saquon Barkley is redefining the market for running backs.
The Philadelphia Eagles and Barkley have agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $41.2 million in new money, according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The deal includes $36 million guaranteed, with an additional $15 million in incentives.
The Eagles later confirmed Barkley’s new two-year extension.
With a $20.6 million new-money average, Barkley becomes the first running back in NFL history to earn over $20 million per year. His $36 million in guaranteed money is also the most ever for a running back on a contract of three years or fewer, per Over The Cap.
Last offseason, Barkley signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract with $26 million guaranteed plus incentives. Now, his new deal keeps him under contract through 2028.
