Former ESPN reporter Ed Werder suggested that Colorado head coach Deion Sanders “would almost certainly accept” an offer from Jerry Jones to take on the role of head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
In a tweet on Thursday morning, Werder stated, “Regarding Deion Sanders: I’m being told that he would almost certainly accept if Jerry Jones offers to make him the next Cowboys head coach, that those around him are encouraging him to pursue it, and that Jones is enamored with the idea.”
Sanders acknowledged being intrigued by the conversation with Jerry Jones but reiterated his strong desire to stay in Boulder as the head coach of Colorado.
“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Deion Sanders told ESPN on Monday night, via ESPN insider Adam Schefter. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”
At 57, Sanders has been closely associated with the Cowboys’ head coach position due to his deep ties to the team. He played five seasons with Dallas (1995-99) and was a key figure on the Cowboys’ last Super Bowl-winning team in 1995.
