South Carolina redshirt sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers has been a major talking point in college football this offseason. Following an outstanding individual finish to the 2024 season, he guided the Gamecocks to a perfect 6-0 run to close out the year. With a strong defense and Sellers’ breakout performances in November, USC came close to securing a spot in the College Football Playoff.
CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli is among the national analysts who believe in Sellers’ potential to maintain his high level of play. On Wednesday, Fornelli unveiled his list of the top 10 quarterbacks in the country for 2025, with Sellers earning a spot.
According to Fornelli, LaNorris Sellers is the 7th-best quarterback in all of college football.
Said Fornelli about Sellers: “Sellers will be one of the more fascinating cases in 2025. He’s ultra-athletic and extremely talented, but we’ve seen plenty of similar stories in college football over the years. The problem is that many never develop as passers, though the ones who do become legends (and occasionally beat Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowls). Sellers has that kind of ceiling, and with the amount of contributors the Gamecocks need to replace from last year’s team, he’ll need to take that step forward.”
You can see Fornelli’s entire top 10 below:
Arch Manning–Texas Longhorns
Cade Klubnik–Clemson Tigers
Carson Beck–Miami Hurricanes
Drew Allar–Penn State Nittany Lions
Sam Leavitt–Arizona State Sun Devils
Garrett Nussmeier–LSU Tigers
LaNorris Sellers–South Carolina Gamecocks
Sawyer Robertson–Baylor Bears
Rocco Becht–Iowa State Cyclones
DJ Lagway–Florida Gators
Sellers aims to build on his historic achievement as South Carolina’s first-ever coaches-voted All-SEC quarterback by delivering another impressive season in 2025. If he can live up to Fornelli’s top-10 projection, the Gamecocks could once again find themselves in the College Football Playoff discussion.
Sellers will make his 2025 season debut with South Carolina on August 31, when the Gamecocks face the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
