Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Pat Coogan has officially signed with Indiana University, bringing his experience and leadership to the Hoosiers’ football program. Coogan, who started 26 games over the past two seasons for the Fighting Irish, entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.
During his tenure at Notre Dame, Coogan demonstrated versatility by playing both left guard and center positions. In the 2023 season, he started all 13 games at left guard. The following year, after an injury to starting center Ashton Craig in the third game, Coogan stepped in and started the remaining 13 games at center, showcasing his adaptability and commitment to the team.
Known for his passionate leadership, Coogan often served as the team’s pregame hype man, energizing his teammates before games. His leadership qualities were highlighted by Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, who praised Coogan’s passion and dedication to the program.
Coogan’s decision to transfer comes after Notre Dame’s 34-23 loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff national championship game. He joins fellow offensive linemen Rocco Spindler and Sam Pendleton, as well as receivers Deion Colzie and Jayden Thomas, in seeking new opportunities through the transfer portal.
At Indiana, Coogan is expected to bolster the offensive line with his extensive playing experience and leadership skills. His addition aims to strengthen the Hoosiers’ offense as they prepare for the upcoming season.
