Former Texas A&M player Akinola Ogunbiyi has committed to Colorado from the NCAA transfer portal and joined the program. He played for the Aggies over the past five seasons.
Ogunbiyi appeared in only three games this season in College Station. That brought his total of 23 over the past five years, including eight starts.
Ogunbiyi primarily played left guard during his time with Texas A&M. All of his starts came during second and third years with the team as he seemed to take a step back on the depth chart over the past two.
Ogunbiyi, a member of the Class of 2020, was a four-star recruit from Sugar Land (Texas) Kempner, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which combines data from all four major recruiting media outlets. He was ranked as the No. 32 prospect in Texas, the No. 7 interior offensive lineman in his class, and the No. 220 overall prospect nationally.
Ogunbiyi arrives in Boulder as an experienced offensive lineman, providing the Buffaloes with added depth heading into the 2025 season.
While Deion Sanders has heavily utilized the transfer portal, he has also criticized those who engage in tampering before players officially enter the portal.
“I saw something the other day about some quarterback, was it the Texas guy? They said he had an offer for $4 or 5 million,” Deion Sanders said. “How you get an offer when you’re not in the portal? How does that work?
“Because we don’t do that. Like, how does that work? How you get an offer when you’re not in the portal? So who does that?”
Sanders also mentioned that he regularly offers guidance to Buffaloes players who come to him about entering the portal.
“Sometimes these young men are just confused and they’re hearing all the outside noise and they think that that’s the best thing for them,” Deion Sanders said. “And I always tell them, I don’t recommend you jumping into the portal unless you know you’re probably going to have a home.”
