To remain competitive in modern college football, programs must adapt and actively engage with the transfer portal every offseason. For Georgia football, the advantage lies in their ability to be highly selective about which players they pursue.
Under Kirby Smart’s leadership, the Bulldogs consistently bring in top-tier high school recruiting classes, ensuring a steady influx of elite talent each season. However, to maintain their position at the pinnacle of college football, UGA must continue leveraging the transfer portal, even if they can afford to be more discerning in their choices.
A tight end from USC has recently entered the transfer portal, and it would be a smart move for Georgia to pursue him.
USC tight end Duce Robinson has revealed his intention to enter the transfer portal this offseason. This marks one of the most significant developments of this transfer cycle, as Robinson is a former five-star recruit and ranked as the No. 1 tight end in the 2023 class by 247Sports.
Duce Robinson might be a familiar name for Georgia fans, as Kirby Smart and his staff were heavily involved in his recruitment during his high school days. Georgia was even considered the frontrunner at one point, with several crystal ball predictions favoring the Bulldogs, before Robinson ultimately chose to commit to USC.
Not only did Robinson stand out as an elite high school recruit, but he has also proven his talent during his two seasons with the Trojans. This season, he recorded 23 receptions for 396 yards and five touchdowns. Interestingly, his ESPN profile also notes that he registered an interception this year—a rare feat for a tight end.
While it remains unclear whether Georgia will actively pursue Robinson, the existing relationship and his impressive collegiate performance suggest it could be a worthwhile opportunity for Smart to explore.
