Many believe there will be a quarterback competition for Georgia football this offseason. Carson Beck, who has been the starting QB for the past two seasons, chose to forgo the NFL Draft last year to return for the 2024 season. For a while, it seemed clear that this would be Beck’s final year at Georgia.
Beck began this season ranked among the top quarterbacks on NFL Draft boards, and with a strong performance, he was expected to secure a first-round draft spot. Unfortunately, the season has not unfolded as anticipated for him.
So while most still assume Beck will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, he does still have a year of eligibility remaining and could make a return to Georgia for one final season.
Carson Beck has the opportunity to return for an additional season, as he still has one year of eligibility left. Although he would almost certainly be picked in this year’s NFL Draft if he declared, there are strong arguments in favor of him staying at Georgia for another year.
To begin with, Beck’s NFL Draft stock has declined over the course of this season. He hasn’t performed at the level many anticipated, which has negatively impacted his draft standing. While he was initially projected as a late first-round or early second-round pick, even that outlook has taken a downturn recently.
Beck’s injury during Georgia’s victory in the SEC Championship game has also raised concerns among NFL scouts. If the injury turns out to be minor, he should be fully recovered in time for the NFL Combine and Georgia’s Pro Day. However, if the injury is more serious, he might be unable to participate in either event, which could cause his draft stock to drop even further.
These factors present a strong argument for why Beck might benefit from returning for another season. It would give him the opportunity to improve his performance and potentially restore his position at the top of NFL Draft boards, rather than continuing to slide as he has throughout this season.
This decision will probably not be made until Georgia’s season concludes, but it is something every Georgia fan will want to keep a close eye on as January approaches.
