Elite 2025 recruit Agot Makee announced on Saturday that she has committed to South Carolina.
âIâm a very competitive person,â Makeer told On3 in a previous interview. âMy work ethic isnât like a lot of the other girls in my class, and I feel like that puts me ahead sometimes. Iâm versatile in a way that my body is different, I can get to the rim and score from the perimeter.â
Standing at 6-foot-1 and playing as a combo guard, Makeer felt she could thrive at any of the programs she consideredâbut the Gamecocks ultimately caught her attention.
âItâs really good. I have a pretty good relationship with coach [Dawn] Staley. Itâs one of the powerhouses of womenâs basketball like UConn. Itâs really cool to be recruited by them and I love what they do there for black women, especially. I really like that and I have a good relationship with the coaching staff, so Iâm excited to get on campus.â
There were several factors Makeer was considering when making her decision.
âGenuine relationships are big for me,â Agot Makeer said. âMy top six schools are those because I have genuine relationships with the coaching staff and theyâve taken time to build relationships with my family as well⌠All six schools, I could go and make an impact.â
Although she plays as a small forward, Makeer mentioned that growing up, NBA icons Kevin Durant and Steph Curry had the greatest influence on her style of play.
âI think my strength and is my versatility is what makes me different ,â Makeer told Kentucky.com. âI can play one through five and can guard one through five. So, I think itâs just me being able to do different stuff on the court. Those are things that both of those guys can do â showcase their versatility.â
And for those who follow her closely, the comparisons are unmistakable.
âHer size, her length and her intelligence in the game are her strengths,â said Richard Nurse, who coached Makeer for the Kia Nurse Canadian Elite EYBL program. âSheâs also a great teammate. She talks, she communicates with the athletes. She plays well, sheâs always helping all her teammates out.â
Originally from Fargo, North Dakota and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Makeer averaged 19.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, and she earned MVP honors in her junior year’s high school championship game.
