Georgia football has had many elite players come through their program. That is why it is really shocking to hear that UGA has only had two Hesiman Trophy winners in their entire program’s history.
What if someone suggested that a Georgia player could win the Heisman Trophy next season? That’s precisely what ESPN’s Mark Schlabach recently proposed.
“If junior tailback Trevor Etienne declares for the NFL draft, Frazier should enter the 2025 season as the Bulldogs’ primary back,” Schlabach shared via ugawire.usetoday.com. “He showed plenty of promise as a freshman, running 129 times for 634 yards with eight scores. Frazier, from Compton, California, improved tremendously as a pass blocker and caught 10 passes out of the backfield. He lost a couple of untimely fumbles, though, so ball security will continue to be a focus going forward.”
Nate Frazier possesses the skills needed to secure the 2025 Heisman Trophy.
However, certain conditions must align for the Georgia running back to achieve this feat. Firstly, his teammate Trevor Etienne would need to declare for the NFL draft. Currently in his third year of college football, Etienne still has the option to return to Georgia for another season. If he does, he would likely retain his position as the starting running back, which could hinder Frazier’s chances of competing for the Heisman. In fact, if Etienne returns, he could emerge as a Heisman contender himself.
For Nate Frazier to have a strong shot at winning the 2025 Heisman Trophy, quarterback Carson Beck would also need to leave the program. Beck has the option to return for one more season, and if he does, Georgia’s offense would likely remain pass-heavy, reducing Frazier’s opportunities to shine. However, if a new quarterback takes over, the team would likely rely more on the running game, significantly boosting Frazier’s chances of standing out as a Heisman contender.
If both of these scenarios play out, the discussion about Nate Frazier’s potential to win the Heisman Trophy can truly begin. Frazier has already demonstrated his dominance, stepping up for Georgia when their running back corps was plagued by injuries. With an entire offseason to further develop in the program, Frazier is poised to become even more formidable next season.
While it may never be certain that Nate Frazier will contend for the Heisman next season, even if these two factors fall into place, there is definitely a chance. If that happens, it would make for an exciting and thrilling storyline to watch unfold.
