Georgia’s basketball team is riding high after two major victories, defeating No. 3 Florida and Texas on Saturday night in Austin.
Sophomore guard Silas Demary Jr. played a pivotal role in Georgia’s success.
On Monday, the SEC named Demary Jr. its Player of the Week after he averaged 23.5 points across the two victories.
It was an impressive performance.
Demary Jr. played a key role in Georgia’s historic victory over Florida, scoring 21 points to help secure the program’s highest-ranked win in over two decades.
He then delivered a career-best performance against Texas, dropping 26 points. Over the two games, he shot an impressive 57.7 percent from the field and an even better 58.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Demary Jr. made an immediate impact against Florida, scoring 10 points in the first 5:31 to help Georgia jump out to a 20-6 lead. He also contributed 10 first-half points against Texas, guiding the Bulldogs to a 46-29 halftime advantage.
With this recognition, Demary Jr. becomes the 20th Georgia player to earn SEC Player of the Week honors since the award’s inception in 1985. Bulldogs players have now won a total of 41 POTW awards.
Georgia improved to 18-11 overall and 6-10 in SEC play with these victories. The Bulldogs have two regular-season games remaining—against South Carolina on Tuesday and Vanderbilt on Saturday—as they continue their push for an NCAA Tournament berth.
