On February 17, it was confirmed that McEndoo has officially joined Texas’s coaching staff early this offseason. He is expected to assist in coaching tight ends and possibly a hybrid “Cowboy back” position for the Longhorns in the 2025 season.
With over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, McEndoo is a seasoned football coach. During the mid-to-late 1990s, he played alongside Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Johnny Nansen at Washington State.
McEndoo’s first college coaching role came in the 2003 season with the FCS Montana State Bobcats, where he led the offensive line from 2003 to 2014. Much of that time was spent working under Pete Kwiatkowski, now Texas’s co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach
McEndoo played a key role in developing successful offensive lines at Montana State, contributing to the Bobcats’ FCS playoff appearances. He also coached guard Mike Person, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
Gundy brought McEndoo to Oklahoma State from Montana State to coach the unique “Cowboy back” position. Over the past decade, he helped develop multiple All-Big 12 players and future NFL tight ends, including Blake Jarwin and Jelani Woods.
McEndoo continued coaching cowboy backs until 2022, when he was promoted to oversee both tight ends and fullbacks at Oklahoma State.This addition is expected to support the growth of several promising young tight ends for the Longhorns in the 2025 season, such as freshman Jordan Washington and sophomore Spencer Shannon. Texas will also welcome two highly regarded true freshman tight ends this spring, Emaree Winston and Nick Townsend.
