The college football scene has been shaken by the surprising announcement that legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick is set to take charge at North Carolina. Just three weeks ago, no one could have predicted this turn of events, but Belichick is now headed to Chapel Hill.
This development will undoubtedly make recruiting in North Carolina more challenging for Josh Heupel and the rest of Tennessee’s coaching staff, as Belichick is likely to focus on retaining top talent within the state. However, 5-star quarterback Faizon Brandon
, the nation’s top-ranked player and North Carolina’s No. 1 prospect, has already committed verbally to the Vols.
Following the official announcement, 247Sports’ Anna Adams asked Brandon for his thoughts on the Tar Heels’ decision. Brandon responded respectfully, stating he appreciated the move for UNC but made it clear it wouldn’t affect his recruitment—he’s firmly committed to Tennessee.
5-star QB Faizon Brandon remains “locked in” with Tennessee despite Bill Belichick’s move to UNC. Speaking to 247Sports’ Anna Adams, Brandon said, “I think hiring him was a good decision by UNC, and they will attract many recruits and win a lot of games. But I don’t think I would [take a phone call] because I am 1000 percent locked in with Tennessee!”
It’s an open-and-shut case. Brandon received 25 offers during his recruitment, with top programs nationwide vying for his commitment. However, Heupel and his staff managed to win him over, securing his pledge to Tennessee on August 3 and effectively closing the door on other options.
Although the Early Signing Period for 2026 prospects is still a year away, there’s plenty of time for Belichick and other coaches to attempt to flip Brandon. However, that seems unlikely, as Brandon remains steadfast in his commitment, reiterating that nothing will stop him from playing in Knoxville.
