Williams Nwaneri has joined the Nebraska Cornhuskers through the NCAA Transfer Portal.
After initially planning to enter the portal on Tuesday, Williams Nwaneri officially did so on Thursday, accompanied by a do-not-contact tag. Since then, RPM Predictions, including those from On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong, have confidently projected Nebraska as the destination for his transfer, giving the Cornhuskers a 100% chance of securing his commitment. Notably, Jamar Mozee, a senior assistant coach in Lincoln, previously coached Nwaneri in high school. Mozee left that position for a role at UCF before joining Nebraska’s staff in July.
Nwaneri participated in four games during the past season, which may qualify him for a redshirt as a true freshman at Missouri. During his time with the Tigers, he recorded two tackles, including one for a loss, and a sack.
Hailing from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Nwaneri played high school football at Lee’s Summit North. He was ranked as the No. 7 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle as a Five-Star+ prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking—a weighted system incorporating evaluations from all four major recruiting media outlets. Additionally, he was rated as the No. 1 player from Missouri and the top edge rusher in his class.
Nwaneri ultimately chose to commit to the in-state program at Missouri, bypassing offers from top schools like Georgia, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, among others. He later signed as one of the highest-rated prospects in the school’s history. His recruitment included three unofficial visits to Lincoln between January 2022 and March 2023.This is a significant acquisition for Matt Rhule and Nebraska, especially in just Nwaneri’s first year of college football. The Cornhuskers will now aim to nurture his potential as one of the nation’s top prospects, bringing him to Lincoln through the transfer portal.
